Birchwood Shopping Centre, an important district commercial centre located approximately 4 miles from Lincoln city centre, was comprehensively refurbished and extended to provide new retail space, office accommodation, residential apartments and improved car parking facilities. The £6M development was carefully phased to allow the existing retail units to continue to trade and members of the public to continue to access the centre. The re-development took 2 years to complete.
This important building dating from 1897 was comprehensively repaired and refurbished with the help of a £900,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The project incorporated a new sympathetically designed extension to provide improved access facilities incorporating a new stair and lift core and other ancillary rooms.
